Production Designer

Joshua Turpin is a Canadian-based production designer known for his ability to create immersive worlds that resonate on screen. A versatile creative in the industry, he is often described as a "Josh-of-all-trades" for his wide-ranging talents and his ability to adapt to various artistic challenges.

A graduate of the University of Victoria with a BFA in Theatre Directing and Film Studies, Joshua expanded his education through studies at the University of Alberta and East China Normal University. His passion for culture and storytelling has taken him across the globe, with extended time spent in Australia, India, China, and Japan before settling in Toronto.

As a production designer, Joshua has had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous acclaimed directors, producers, and artists. His recent work includes designing for feature films Deathstalker, Frankie Freako, Lunar Sway, and past projects such as V/H/S/94, The Legacy of Cloudy Falls and Violation. He is also recognized for his work on award-winning short films such as Bath Bomb, Demon Box, and My Soul to Take. In addition, Joshua is currently working on a new primetime TV series titled Revival.

Joshua's expertise has earned him recognition at prestigious film festivals, including the Toronto International Film Festival, Cannes International Film Festival, Sundance International Film Festival, and now Berlinale. He has also worked across Canada, Europe, and Asia, where his innovative designs have been showcased on some of the most recognized stages in the film and TV industry.

In addition to his professional work, Joshua is deeply committed to fostering the next generation of filmmakers. He volunteers with institutions such as the Canadian Film Centre, the National Theatre School of Canada, University of Toronto, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU), sharing his experience and passion for the craft.

Joshua continues to push the boundaries of what can be achieved in production design, always striving to tell stories in unique, visually compelling ways. His dedication to the arts, combined with his collaborative spirit, makes him a sought-after creative force in the industry.

Currently, Joshua is seeking the next big story to bring to life — one that will continue to expand the horizons of visual storytelling.
